Day in and day out, teachers do the most important work anyone can do – nurturing the minds of the next generation. Chances are that at least one teacher has changed your life or influenced your child’s life for the better, and now is your chance to finally say “thanks.”
Thanks to all of you teachers out there who go through your days, faithfully doing your job, basically “unthanked”. Parents don’t realize what a major part of their children’s lives you are. Many of you go well beyond the duties of your job to make a difference in the children’s lives. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Wish I could thank you monetarily. - Betty P.

Thanks to a teacher, I have retired after 35 years of teaching British Literature/Senior English. Mrs. Estelle Mott, who still resides in Davidson, NC inspired me daily as she read. Whether from Far from the Madding Crowd aloud as Bathsheba, or as Lady Macbeth, I loved English from that day on and decided to share my love with as many as possible. Thank you Estelle Mott. Thanks to a teacher…Thanks to Mrs. Burgess, my fourth grade teacher at Long Creek Elementary, I learned that beauty was more than just on the outside and that even though I may not have been the &;quot;prettiest&;quot; little girl in class, she loved me just the way I was, plump and all! Thanks to my seventh grade language arts teacher, Mrs. Harry, I learned more than just language arts…I saw someone who truly “loved life” and everyone she came in contact with. Thanks to five great high school teachers, Mr. Clayton, Ms. Rapp, Mr. Mizelle, Mr. Pittard and Ms. Cantrell, I developed leadership skills, self confidence, and the motivation to seek out my dreams. - Jerri H.

Thanks to a teacher, I discovered that I actually had it in me to go beyond anything I ever imagined I could do. I am so grateful for the teachers (a list a mile long) that took a chance on me, knowing better than I did the potential I had. Because of a string of phenomenal teachers who encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and pursue music even when it wasn’t easy, I now have the opportunity to teach middle school students what it means to work hard and achieve things you never dreamed possible. Thank you to my teachers who never got upset when I missed class for band. I only hope that I will make half the impact that you made on me! - Kati S.

Thanks to a teacher “our” children are learning. I work once a week as a “teacher’s aid” & volunteer at Elizabeth Lane Elementary in Charlotte, NC. I work with Ruthanne Effren in her Kindergarden class and can see what a wonderful job teachers are doing under very trying circumstances, long hours, very little help and grossly underpaid. Ruthanne & some of her fellow teachers are discouraging their children from becoming teachers – down the road we will have a huge shortage if we do not appreciate our teachers today and pay them what they are worth. - Yvonne A.
Thanks to a teacher I received both a cultural and intellectual education that helped me learn to both open my mind and get along with others in my daily life. I was praised, valued and admired as well as evaluated, critiqued and grounded. I learned how to appreciate my own strengths and gifts as well as those of my peers and even the adults in my small and sheltered world of home and school. Teachers mediate thousands of these invaluable socio-educational engagements each hour of every school day in “lower” ed and continue to do so at a more advanced level in colleges and universities across the planet. They serve in the profession with selfless and passionate abandon, for the most part, sharing the most core aspects of their hearts and souls. The great majority of teachers and professors create safe havens in their classroom environments for self-discovery and intellectual pursuits in ways otherwise unattainable for, again, a vast majority of the humans of the world. They should be lauded with our deepest respect, highest praise and paid accordingly. Kimberly B.
